Day 1 : Izmir & Smyrna & Agora City & Polycarp’s Church
We meet at Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen airport domestic departures terminal (Istanbul hotel pick up available and also other meeting points can be arranged upon request). Meeting at Izmir Airport is also available. Start with a Izmir’s famous breakfast at historical bakery and after that, we visit to the Martyr Polycarp’s Church in Izmir and a brief tour of Smyrna’s ancient city. (Rev 2:8-11). We go to our hotel in Izmir and time for relax and settle in. Have free time for settle in and also explore the city centre of Izmir. Have a delicious dinner together and get ready for the next day.
Day 2 : Pergamum & Acropolis & Thyatira
We start with Pergamum. The church of Pergamum was praised for its forbearance;(Rev. 2:12- 17) it was then that the first Christians were executed by Rome. We'll visit the legendary Acropolis (Acropolis where the Temple of Zeus (some claim Satan’s Seat in the Roman Empire), Royal Gates, foundations of the Altar of Zeus and the library( which formerly held 200,000 volumes). We continue to Thyatira viewing the ancient thruway and period columns. Thyatira was formerly an important trading center and notorious as a" dealer of grandiloquent," the most favored of the Seven Churches.
Day 3: Sardis & Philadeplhia
Sardis, (Rev 3:1-6) known for the golden fleece, dyeing of wool, and the huge temple of Artemis – There is a wonderful restored Synagogue here founded in the 600 BC, likely a location where Paul preached. Another stop is nearby Philadelphia from where we are challenged to “hold fast” and look forward to the coming of the "new Jerusalem" (Rev. 3:7-13) in the Book of Revelation. We will explore ruins at Philadelphia (Rev. 3:7-13).
Day 4: Laodicea & Hierapolis & Colossae
Laodicea (Rev 3:14-22), a wonderful site actively being excavated. Laodicea contains many acres of ruins to visit including a stadium and remnants of a sophisticated water system. Will understand why the Bible refers to the Laodiceans as "neither hot nor cold but lukewarm" and also the ancient city of Hierapolis where Philip was martyred. From Hierapolis, we can see the famous white cotton fortress of Pamukkale. Hierapolis, meaning "Sacred City,". According to tradition, the Apostle Philip lived and was martyred in Hierapolis. It was likely the hot springs of Hierapolis (in contrast to the cold mountain springs near Colossae) that combined to bring application to the "lukewarm" Laodiceans (Rev 3:14-22). This connection between the cities lies behind Paul’s reference to Hierapolis and Laodicea in his epistle to the Colossians (Col 4:13). Our guests spend rest of their time at travertines.
Day 5: Ephesus & Artemis Temple & Virgin Mary’s House
Explore the ancient port city of Ephesus (Rev 2:1-7) where our guests walk on the colonnaded street where Paul and John walked and visit the great theater where Paul caused an uproar. Walk the streets where Paul lived and preached; explore the breathtaking Library of Celsus and Temple of Hadrian. Visit Virgin Mary’s House, Artemis Temple (one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world), Basilica Of St. John which houses an immersion baptismal and is believed to be the resting place of John.
